Nancy Truett , LPC

Nancy Truett is a licensed counselor and experienced leader in mental health services with 23 years of practice across clinical, educational, and residential settings. She holds national and state credentials - National Certified Counselor (NCC), which signals national-level professional standards, and Licensed Professional Counselor-Mental Health Service Provider (LPC-MHSP) in Tennessee - and she is an approved supervisor able to oversee developing counselors. She brings specialized training in trauma care, including certification in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and advanced certifications in grief, loss, trauma, and cultural studies in education.

Nancy has worked with a wide range of populations, from adolescents in alternative school and residential treatment programs to adults in substance abuse treatment, and she has experience in agency, private practice, K-12, and college settings. Her clinical and research specialty centers on women, abuse, and trauma, with particular expertise in psychological and emotional abuse. That focus is complemented by practice areas that include stress, anxiety, addictions, relationships, depression, LGBT concerns, family and parenting issues, eating and intimacy-related matters, and coping with life changes.

Education and the arts inform her approach. She earned a master’s degree from the University of Tennessee in Educational Psychology with a focus on Community and Mental Health Counseling and a bachelor’s degree in Literature and Creative Writing from the University of North Carolina, and she often integrates arts-based methods into counseling. Currently a doctoral candidate in Educational Psychology and Adult Learning at the University of Tennessee, she also serves as the Director of Counseling Services at a community college, blending administrative leadership with direct clinical work and supervision.
